Social IB
Back to IB Program SOCIAL 10 Pre-IB (5 credits) Full Year Social 10 Pre-IB follows the Alberta Learning Program of Studies. However, the focus is on developing an international and intercultural understanding. A study of contemporary issues as well as a greater focus on Canadian historical studies will provide students with a broader awareness of the world around them. SOCIAL 20 IB (5 credits) Semestered Social Studies 20 IB is structured for students who have the intention to pursue post secondary education following the commencement of high school or have a genuine interest or passion for in-depth historical study and analysis. This course fulfills the group three Individuals and Societies component of the International Baccalaureate curriculum and is the first course taken in the two year IB program. The course is strong in its historical emphasis of the 19th century. Students study the following topics in-depth: Development of the Modern Era, The Enlightenment, French Revolution, Napoleon, Industrial Revolution, Unifications of Italy and Germany, Imperialism, Causes, Events, and aftermath of World War I. The course gives the students a strong base for historical interpretation, analysis and application. SOCIAL 30 E (5 credits) Semestered This course is intended for students who have completed Social 20 E and wish to continue the study of Social with an IB philosophy. Students in this course will follow the Alberta Learning curriculum. For the 2004-2005 academic year only, grade 12 Social IB students will be ineligible to write the Social IB exam. Students who have Social 20 instead of Social 20 E may register in this course with a teacher recommendation. |
