  • Art History. Students develop an appreciation of past art, as the study of art styles and culture (Ancient Egyptian, Greek Classical Art, Renaissance, Baroque and Modem Art) relate directly with their studio projects. Students have direct access to art sites on the Internet, and the laser disc “Sightlines” which promote independent research during their program of studies in Art 10.
2003-04 Arts Festival
Students taking the full year Art 10 program have the opportunity to incorporate Design Studies, a CTS strand, as part of their yearly study in art. This makes it possible for future links to other design studies (drafting) modules during their three years at Holy Trinity.

ART 20 (3 and 5 credits) Semestered
Students continue their creative and critical thinking skills in all of the basic art mediums; however, emphasis is placed on perfecting personal style and technique, while rendering compositions in:
  • Soft edge Impressionism and optical colour mixing with links to impressionist painters such as Monet, Seurat, and early impressionists of the Canadian Group of Seven
  • Cryptic art, visual paradox and the art of optical illusion
  • Architectural / sculpture expression: rendering in 2D and 3D
  • Improving technique study in painting: acrylic, and oil: various subject matter
  • Computer related graphic and design: utilizing software programs that promote post secondary study in art and design.

ART 30 (5 credits) Semestered
The senior level of visual art concentrates on the student as an artist who seeks excellence of expression in compositions which are “visionary”. Students strive for the “synectic” process of rendering highly eye catching work, which is totally original and personal in expression, while being well crafted and assembled. Senior artists explore various global cultures, viewing the cultural, social, and environmental factors which lead to the creation of cultural artifacts, as well as the study of Canadian art, past and present, which complete the course. Students are encouraged to work on personal expression in their studio project, pursuing large pieces of work, which contribute to the making of a portfolio for those students pursuing post secondary programs in art and design. In addition, students have the option of taking a module in CTS (Info. Pro. 107) which allows them to create their portfolio using computer generated presentation software, (schedule permitting). 2003-04 Arts Festival

Graphic Art & Design Special Project
Students who have completed Art 10, 20 and 30, may take Graphic Art & Design: a course specifically designed to appeal to those students wishing to pursue a career in graphic art. Students research as well as produce various types of advertising, corporate graphics and logos, with an emphasis on design and visual appeal for promotional purposes.

The art of cartooning and animation further enhance the graphic artist’s experiences, as students produce a short animated video commercial. Various aspects of illustration, publication cover design and content illustration, technical illustration, fashion design, as well as political editorial illustrations, provide opportunities for developing an excellent portfolio for post secondary institutions.
